The districts of Rome - Tourist information
Esquilino, Termini |
| The Esquiline hill is the tallest among Rome’s seven hills. In Roman times famous personalities such as Virgilio, Oratio, Mecenate and properzio built their villas here. This area is situated between the Aurelian Walls (III century A.D.), the Termini station, S. Maria Maggiore and S. Croce in Gerusalemme, but the real pumping heart of the district is Piazza Vittorio, one of the most lively squares in Rome. There are a busy market, people of every race and cultureand numerous shopsselling products from all over the world. Exotic smells, flavours and atmospheres without travelling away from Rome! A tip for curious tourists: on the “magic door” in the Oddone-Palombara villa you can still read (and try to decifre) the “magic formula” used in the Middle Ages to make gold!
